Baseball Is My Favorite Season Layout; CutCardStock Blog

I know I've said this many times, I don't do mixed media layouts...guess what? I did. I designed this layout in Cricut Design Space first. After I cut the elements out, I placed the elements on the white layout base and realized that it was way too stark for a baseball layout.

Look at the difference! It needed the grunge!

So, I pulled out two shades of orange ink and a gray one. I didn't want to use black since I thought it would be too dark.

Check out the YouTube process video to see exactly what I did:

Originally I thought I'd just layer the cut pieces onto the layout and guess their location, but I decided to use the cutaway portion to use as a guide. I taped the cutaway portion down using blue painter tape since it would be easy to remove. I taped it on the top in a hinge fashion. This was a great time saver!

Then I adhered the baseballs, stars and photos to the top half of the layout. I love how this is turning out! When I was ready to place the title, I realized it needed something to rest on too so I added some more orange ink mostly on the right side of where the title would lay.
Close Up:

Isn't this a fun layout! MLB Opening Day is always a big deal in our household and I'm so glad that my son and hubby took pictures!

Materials Used:
All Cardstock is from CutCardStock and can be found HERE
Pop Tone Orange Fizz, Pop Tone Black Licorice and Wedding Cake Textured cardstock for the base & the fun white layer. (I don't even know what to call that!)

Inks: Only Orange by Stampin Up! Nectarine and Pewter from Close To My Heart (CTMH)
Black Licorice and Citrus Cooler Color Silk (splash) from Fun Stampers Journey/Spellbinders
Cricut Design Space for the title, baseballs, stars and circle cut outs.

Dollar Tree Updo; Splash Tub

I bought a simple black tub from the Dollar Tree so my granddaughter can use it for water play in the backyard. I took one look and decided I needed to add something bright and fun to it - so I did!

I used a splash sentiment, fishes and bubbles all from Design Space and scrap pieces of vinyl for this project.

I placed all the pieces on one mat using the guide in Design Space to match the placement of the multiple color pieces to the mat.

It's so much easier and less work to cut as many colors as possible on one mat. Especially when using small scraps.

Isn't this super cute!?!

I know she'll love it when she comes to play!

Live Your Life Junk Journal Page

I love taking what I call a unfinished page and transforming it to something pretty. That’s what I did with this one.
I used a regular pencil to draw some wonky leaves and then some black acrylic paint to paint around the leaves
I used two different white paint pens to outline the leaves and to add splatter around the page.

I recently found out that one of my longtime friends, over 40 years, had a heart attack and passed away this week. I’m still in shock. It’s unbelievable. I’m reminded that life is short, be sure to Live Your Life.

I have a YouTube video on this if you want to check it out

TGIF; Thankful Friday #227

Happy Friday and Happy Thankful Friday!

Hmmmm...what am I thankful for this week? I'm thankful that Summer Reading Marathon is in full force and I have already read FOUR books! I love this summer tradition that my daughter and I started back when she was a new reader and that our whole family (although they don't read with us) are into it with us.

This year seems a little different as we are discussing each book as we finish with each other. I like that. I've already read which I believe is going to be one of my all time favorite books, West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.

It's a historical fiction novel and I loved it!

How about you? Are you a reader? Do you have a favorite book to recommend?

Also, let me know what you're thankful for this week! I'd love to know.

Horseshoe Bend Layout

I'm still working on our 2020 Road Trip photos but I'm making great headway. I realize as I'm going through the photos and memories, we did A LOT during this short road trip. I took a ton of photos and it is going to take some time to scrapbook them.

I'm using a sketch from the Scrapbooking With Ann Marie website. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, you really should. She has lots of challenges, games, tutorials, and just great scrapbooking chatter. There's a free membership and a paid one. Of course you get more from the paid which is what I'm a part of. I'm also a part of her Design Team.

This sketch is a good one since you can use plenty of paper and you know I have a lot of it!

Here's my first take and some close ups:

I thought I was finished, but it was missing something so I added a title to the lower left corner. So much better.

Check out my YouTube process video for this one:

Cutting measurements:
Blue Plaid Echo Park: 3x11 and 2.5x11
Khaki: 1.5x10
Dark Brown: 1.5x9.75
Wild Blueberry cardstock used to mat the photos and journaling spot is from CutCardStock.

I love using punches for these border strips. I used a tab and starburst punch but you can use whatever you have. Just have fun with it!

How Sweet It Is

I hope you had a chance to view the YouTube process video where I talked about how I created this mosaic-like background for this card. If you're interested, click HERE to see the post with the video.

I created this card using the same background technique as the one I linked above. It turned out super cute too!

The process video below shows how I colored in the gnome and finished off the card. I am linking this to the Heart2Heart CTMH Challenge blog because this cute gnome is holding a piece of cake and it doesn't get much sweeter than that!

Be sure to click over to Heart 2 Heart CTMH challenge blog. They are a Close To My Heart challenge blog, but there's plenty of inspiration from the DT.  They post two challenges a month and you need to use at least one CTMH product on your project.

If you're not already, please consider subscribing to my YouTube channel. I post at least two videos a week and one will always be scrapbooking and the other is whatever it is that I'm creating in the Command Center which you already know is the name of my craft room as well as my blog.

TGIF; Thankful Friday #226

Friday! How sweet it is to be Friday! Last night the Warriors won the NBA Championship and my household is pretty excited about that!

But that is not what I'm thankful for this week. This week, I'm thankful for my son's "get better" attitude and that he is getting better. It's going to be a long slow road, but I know it's going to get here.

What are you thankful for this week? Let me know in the comments!

Right Side of The Tombstone Spread

I've done this plenty of times, but I love turning two one page sketches into a two page sketch. LOL If you weren't a scrapbooker, I'm sure that statement would confuse you!

I used the same products for the right side as the left so that it would flow into a two page spread.

This short visit to Tombstone was fun. The weather was perfect and the crowds were minimal. Which is my idea of a perfect visit.

I have heard of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday but never really gave them any thought except when I watched the Tombstone movie back in the day. It's really cool to see the town reserved as much as possible from the Old West times. The gunfight reenactment was a nice touch to what the town has to offer. We were going to ride the stagecoach as well, but we were hungry so we chose lunch instead. LOL

Be sure to check out the process video and my adhesive bloopers or troubles, however you want to describe it.

The video:

Both sketches were part of the scrapbooking site, Scrapbooking With AnnMarie. She has a free section as well as a member section. She has tons of sketches, challenges, tutorials, etc., all scrapbooking...all the time! Check it out!

We Love Santa; SNS Sketch

When I saw the current sketch on Sketch n Scrap I had the perfect photo for it. I almost forgot about this photo that was taken during Covid Christmas. Santa really thought outside the box this year by using a vintage truck to separate himself from the kiddos - no contact and no masks needed!

I used the last piece of patterned paper from this paper set from CTMH. The stamped images and rub ons were also from Close To My Heart. The vintage truck and title was cut using my Cricut.

Here are some close ups:

It's actually a pretty easy sketch but with the variety of patterned papers and fun embellishments make this super cute!

Now it's your turn, click over to Sketch n Scrap challenge blog to work on your own sketch!

Mosaic-like Background & Card

So I did a thing...you know when you buy red rubber stamps and they come all together on a base and you have to take them out of it? Well, I've been saving those leftover bases for years with this particular project in mind.

What I did was adhere those pieces to an acrylic block in no particular order and then added three different color inks one at a time.
Blue, Green & Orange

See the YouTube process video below:

I ended up making two different backgrounds as you can see in the video. For the second one, I added more red rubber pieces to completely cover the acrylic block.

Then I cut the background pieces using a rectangle stitched die. I've had those dies for a while now and finally been using them more and more.)

Here's a photo of one of the finished cards. I'll show the other next week!

Golden Gate Bridge Layout; CutCardStock

When you take fabulous photos, you don’t need lots of embellishments for your scrapbook layout. That’s how I felt about this layout that I created for the CutCardStock blog.

I designed the page in Cricut Design Space by adding Golden Gate Bridge cuts to basic shapes.

I usually don’t cut the shapes since they represent photos and patterned papers but it’s good to see the whole layout as designed.

I used Pop Tone Wild Cherry and Whipped Cream for the title and bridge.

CutCardStock Pop Tone paper is 80# and perfect for cutting with the Cricut. And, it's on sale this month!
Be sure to check their blog and website for inspiration and sales!

I added the punched border on the left because I felt it needed a little something over there and that's also why I stamped using white ink & generational stamping around the layout as well. I love that "Oh Yes". I think it's a lot of fun!

Don't look too close at the map patterned paper, it's actually a map of NY. I covered most of it with the photos so I think it still works. That was the only map paper I had in my stash!

TGIF; Thankful Friday #225

Happy Friday and Happy Thankful Friday! I've been doing this post for over four years! It's good to reflect each week and acknowledge what you are thankful for. I hope you have been doing that right along with me.

This has been a week! First I want to let you know that I won two ribbons this weekend at our local Apricot Fiesta. First Place for the Zion photo and Second for the cow canvas. I am pretty excited about that!

But this week I'm mostly thankful for my family. It's nice that we have someone to depend on when things are good and bad. There are so many people out there that do not have this luxury and we are blessed.

I hope you had a great week - enjoy the hotter weather and if you're lucky, some Summer Vacation time!

Let me know in the comments what you're thankful for. I'd love to hear all about it!
