Awesome Sister; CutCardStock Blog Post

Does your sister have an awesome sister? I know mine do! LOL When I saw this quote in Cricut Design Space, I knew I needed to use it for this photo of my granddaughters from Valentine's Day 2021.

I downloaded that overlay from Scrapbook.com years ago and have never used it but it was perfect for the Silver Glitter Cardstock from CutCardStock. This glitter paper cuts incredibly well with the Cricut. Make sure you use Glitter Paper and change your pressure to "more".

Originally I placed the overlay on top of the patterned paper but decided pretty quickly that it needed a base. I went back to Design Space and created an offset. If you change the offset size to zero, it is a base versus an offset. I had to contour all the areas except the large circles. For some reason, not all of the circles would open up for me so I used a circle cutter to cut through the white base.

To do that, I used a pencil to draw the circle and then cut out the circle just outside those lines.

I gutted the heart patterned paper and used some of it to add the banners on the page as well as the scraps from the Wedding Cake white textured cardstock also from CutCardStock.

In fact, this page is actually pretty simple, all products were from CutCardStock with the exception of the two patterned papers, tab punch, heart/arrow stamp, Versamark ink and black licorice Color Silk.

Here are some close ups so you can see the ghost stamping and other details:

I created this layout for the CutCardStock Design Team and you can see the blog post HERE. I recommend  you check out the blog. The DT is extremely talented and they post some fabulous projects!

TGIF; Thankful Friday #219

TGIF and Happy Thankful Friday! This week I'm thankful for hummingbirds. Specifically the hummingbird that has nested in our backyard. Oh my, the babies have hatched and it is nuts in our backyard. They are providing a lot of drama back there. Ok, I may be exaggerating a little, but there seems to be a lot of extra birds in our backyard since they hatched. Many seem to be on the hunt and others seem to be celebrating their birth. Mama hummingbird is on high alert protecting her babies! The females in our family have added our own script to what is happening outside. It's been quite entertaining.

I'm thankful for this hummingbird family for all the front seat entertainment they are providing. I tried getting photos, but mama is moving pretty quick!

Can you see her on the wire?

What about you? What are you thankful for this week? Share in the comments - I'd love to hear all about it!

Color Hue Challenge #39; Purple/Green Shaker Card

I attended a fun stamping Zoom and stamped along with the instructor. I think I should have waited until after the class so I would have thought more about placement, etc. I don't hate the card, I just don't like it. BUT...I am glad I attended since she had some great tips!

I used purple and green for the Color Hue challenge at Color Hue challenge blog. You guessed it...the color challenge is purple & green.

Wow! There are great projects from the DT as well as linked projects. Check it out!

Santa's Favorite; Layout

You can tell where I'm at in my scrapbooking, by my posts. Yes, I'm in December, 2020! This was a fun layout to do as I followed a tutorial from Scrapbooking With AnnMarie. To make the "bricks", first cut your cardstock to 11" square.  From that you will cut two strips of 3.75" and one of 3/5".  From those strips, cut one at 6.5 and the other at 4.5. The white cardstock is cut down to 10.5" square and all "bricks" are cut 1/4" smaller on all dimensions above.

I used two coordinating patterned papers for this layout, white cardstock and the ornament embellishments were cut using CutCardStock Gold Glitter Paper. This glitter paper is fabulous to use because there is no glitter mess to clean up afterwards!

When I know I'm creating embellishments using the Cricut, I'll create the page in Design Space so I get the measurements right. Here's how it looks in DS. I don't usually cut the squares and rectangles (and I didn't for this layout), just the embellishments and title.

The paper cut smoothly on the Cricut. I chose glitter paper and then changed the pressure to More. It's actually a pretty easy layout but the "bricks" give it such an awesome look!

TGIF; Thankful Friday #218

Happy Friday! I completely forgot to do a TGIF post last Friday - sorry. It was a busy weekend with Easter. It started with my granddaughter's softball game and just never stopped.

This week I'm thankful that my granddaughter has returned to the softball diamond! I miss watching games so much. I love everything about it. The sounds, smell and even the frustrations! LOL

What about you...what are you thankful for this week? Let me know in the comments!

Masculine Cards

Check out the video to show off these fun mixed media masculine cards I made. Although I wasn't able to get the baseball image on a card this time, I know I'll use it since I love it so much!

The car stamp used for this card was gifted from Rubber Paws and you can read about her HERE and the sports stamps are from Graphic 45.

As mentioned in the video, this sheet/masterboard was created a while ago but was never used. I am so glad I kept it. Once I cut it down, I added more splatter and some squiggles using a regular pencil. Other than that, it's just paper & stamped images.

I'll have another card to show off next month using the same paper & process. Until then, check out the process video:

Be sure to hit the subscribe button and the notification bell if you'd like to be notified of any new videos. I post at least two videos a week and one will always be scrapbooking related and the second one will be whatever I'm crafting in the Command Center (which is the name of my craft room!).

April Sketch n Scrap Card #216

Sketch n Scrap posts two different layout and two different card sketches a month. It's hard to choose which one I want to work on but I knew this one would work well with a new flower stamp I recently purchased from Altenew.

Here's the sketch:
And here's my card.
The row of glitter glue dots was added because when I stamped the sentiment, the edge of the stamp had some ink on it. My oops became a part of the embellishment decision!

Products Used:
Stamp Set from Altenew
Ink from Close To My Heart in: Bubblegum, Cotton Candy, Olive
Dark Roast ink from FSJ and Certainly Celery and Moss from SU!
Versamark ink and Black embossing powder
Foam adhesive strips
All papers from my scrap bin
Glitter Glue

Be sure to link your creation using our sketches before the end of the month at the Sketch n Scrap challenge site!

Scrapbooking With The Cricut; Print & Cut

Since I made the goal of two YouTube videos a week and at least one of those has to be scrapbook related, I have shortened the gap between the current date & my scrapbooking date.

If you haven't had the chance to check out my friend AnnMarie's scrapbooking site, Scrapbooking With AnnMarie (she's also Scrapbooking The Day Away on FB), you must do that soon! Check out the site HERE.

She has a free and paid membership options. Of course with the paid membership, you have access to many tutorials, classes, and so much more.

This is one of the tutorials and a great way to use up papers for a quick & easy layout base. The squares are 2.75 x 2.75 and 2.5 x 2.5" in size. I decided to mat the middle square to give it a more finished look.

The truck, tree and Santa were combined in Design Space and then flattened so I could print & cut it out. I duplicated the truck first so it can have a 3D effect.

Please watch the video and see how easy this process really is!

Sketch n Scrap Layout & Cricut Overlay How To

When I saw this sketch, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! I decided to make an overlay using my Cricut for the first page of our Zion National Park photos.

The sketch is from Sketch n Scrap. Be sure to check out their monthly sketches. They post two layout sketches and two card sketches each month.

I did a How To video on creating your own overlay using the Cricut. Check it out below. This overlay is actually pretty simple compared to others that I made.

Here's the finished layout:
What did I do?:
  • I used the back of an ugly paper for the overlay and sponged three different tones of blue and one green across the sheet of paper. This is a great way to use those ugly one sided papers especially when they are heavyweighted!
  • Dark Roast (brown) splatter was placed around the photos & embellishments as well.
  • Cut a small piece of patterned paper and placed it behind the title and cut a strip to place along the top.
  • The little cluster on the top right is a piece of scrap green paper with a quote.
  • The mountain scene was cut with the Cricut as well. After gluing it together, I placed it on the bottom.
  • The overlay is 11.5x11.5 and resting on a piece of woodgrain paper.
Your turn...create a layout and link it to the Sketch n Scrap blog before the end of the month!

What? Easter Is Here?!

Boy, the time has really gotten away from me. I just realized last night that Easter is this weekend! I made these super cute egg boxes from My Scrap Chick. They sell lots of SVGs and have a free image every month. This was one of them!

I figured this box would be pretty simple after tackling the 3D numbers and 3D baseball cap. It was!

I also created the tags with my Cricut. Now I need to fill them! I just bought a bag of jelly beans and chocolate and I need to get rid of them quick or else I'll eat them all!

Check out this quick video of me putting them together!

Sparkly Card; CutCardStock

Spring is here and so are all the crafty projects that come from it. I’m already done with my Mother’s Day card and I love how sparkly it is! I used the Silver Glitter cardstock from CutCardStock and it was fabulous!
The card design is from Cricut Design Space but I made a few changes. Take a look at the sparkly silver swirl
This glitter cardstock cut amazingly on the Cricut. I used the glitter paper setting and added more pressure and had absolutely no problem cutting it. And…there was no glitter mess on my work area! It doesn’t get much better than that!

All the flowers were cut using a variety of Pop Tone cardstock. The exact colors will be listed below. I used a bone folder to curve the petals and a quill tool for the spiral flowers.

Be sure to check out my post on the CutCardStock Blog.

Stick It Down Challenge Layout; Zion

I've got a lot of photos to scrapbook of our road trip to Zion and down to Tucson. The photos are amazing and I'm so excited to see them again and relive the trip.

I'm using a two page sketch from the Stick It Down challenge site to create this quick layout. I love sketches that can hold many 4x6 photos and this two page spread holds six!

I also filmed a process video mostly to show how I created the three clusters. If you subscribe to my YouTube channel, Dorlene Durham, you know that I created a kit of papers and embellishments to scrapbook my hiking photos and that's where I pulled all of the products.

Here are some close ups:

The paper that I cut apart was perfect for this sketch and like I mentioned above, made it super easy to put together!

Take a peek at the video:

Fresh Flowers Pitcher; Cricut Updo

How about a cute, quick and easy project? I received some flowers in this metal pitcher and knew I needed to add some vinyl to it.

I found the phrase already assembled in Design Space- like I said, cute, quick and easy!

Scrapbooking Layouts

I created this layout of my granddaughter's first birthday using a sketch.

Added some stamped images using Versamark ink. I wanted them more in the background and using Versamark ink is perfect for a tone-on-tone look.

And here's another one with a completely different sketch:
I was a little thrown off by those small squares going across the page, but I used small photos instead of embellishments. I do this by using the collage feature on a 4x6 canvas from my local Walgreens. You can get two 2x3 photos or add more photos and get these smaller square/rectangle sizes. Can you believe I got 11 photos on this one page!?!

I didn't add a lot of embellishments but let the photos do the all the work. I'll do a second layout for this subject since in December, I try to take at least one photo a day to capture all the hoopla that happens in this month - from seasonal foods, decorations, crafts, traditions, etc.

You can check out the video below:

Both layouts were following sketches from Scrapbooking With AnnMarie’s website. Check it out HERE!
