Bible Journaling; Baby Girl 3

I haven't did any bible journaling in a long time, but I wanted to do something to record my granddaughters' births. Of course I didn't think of it for the first two, but I do plan on doing something similar. 

As you know, I do not have a bible journaling bible. I use my Mom's Devotional Bible and add some color/art in the margins. I don't want to cover any of the versus so I keep mine pretty simple. 

The first thing I did was look in the index to find babies as the subject. There were four so I chose the third entry since Jhene is the third grandbaby. Then I grabbed everything pink and baby that I thought I would use and just started playing!

I added a flap to add more details and secured it with pink washi tape on both the front & back to create a hinge.

Junk Journal Spread; Galations 3:26-28

I cut thin strips of cardstock scraps and wove them together to create a "rug" of paper. The problem with the end result was that I really didn't take into consideration the color combination so it was bright and not really pretty (of course I did not take a photo).

I put a coat of white gesso over the top and then sprayed it with an assortment of color sprays. It came out with a peachy green & brown patina that I really liked. It was too large to put on a standard card so I decided to use it in my junk journal.

I flipped through the journal to find the perfect background for the "rug". Once I found it, I adhered it with double sided tape.

Then I fussy cut some images from the #printprayslay shop along with a bible verse to glue on top of it. (These images were free on their website HERE.)

QQ Powderpuff Chalk Inks; Bible Art Journaling

Hey there, today I'm showing off the bible art journaling I did with using PowderPuff Chalk Inks for Quick Quotes.

I do not own a journaling bible, but I do journal in my bible. Because I don't have the large border on the sides and don't want to cover the scriptures, I keep my embellishments minimal. I chose to spotlight Proverbs 16:24, "Kind Words are Sweet as Honey and Healing for the Soul." (my interpretation)

Before stamping, I covered the entire page with clear gesso. Once that dried, I stamped honeycomb shaped stamps using Tropical Punch, Vanilla Cream, Purple Rain and Island Orange PowderPuff Chalk Inks. The chalk inks are perfect for this project since they are smooth and translucent.

I used Cool Gray for the sentiment and bees. The other words were either written by me or the Tim Holtz words stickers. I splattered some gold color silk here and there.

I finished the project by shading the page edges with Vanilla Cream and Tropical Punch PowderPuff Chalk Inks and a sponge wedge.

Bible Journaling; Nehemiah 13:31

More bible journaling. I just did simple stamping on the bottom corner of the page with some CTMH ink and my newest Bloom Art Stamps. An afterthought, I should have used clear gesso first since the ink bled through, but that’s ok. I also added some washi tape and outline the portion of the verse that I like, “Remember me with favor, O God”.

Isn't that what we all want? I know I slip and God shakes his head every time, but I'm so thankful that he continues to give me second chances. 

Punched out a tag from some scrap paper and that’s it. Have a blessed day!

Content is the Bible Lesson on the Patter Cross blog. I haven't done any art for these lessons in a long time, but I felt the need to this time around.

Read the lesson HERE or click on the Glory Art badge on the right. I do feel that I am content in my life. Sometimes I think it's a burden but reading these scriptures, I know I'm on the right path. I need to continue my faith that God is leading me on the path I should be on and trust Him. I think everyone questions this in their lifetime.

For the art, I decided to create an art journal page. I am using a page in one of the junk journals I just made. I am so surprised that I actually took photos of each step that I took to get to the final product. I started the page with nothing specific in mind:

Here's how it looked in the beginning:

This sheet is a receipt from a charm purchase. It is pretty thin so I decided to add some scrap papers to make it more sturdy. I grabbed my pink scraps and just started attaching. I love how the words, "I Love You" are in the right had corner (I purchased the ASL I love you charm), so I wanted to keep that showing.

Here's what it looks like with some papers and gesso over the top. When I was rifling through the pink scraps, I came across a scrap piece of cut out crosses so I decided to use that as a stencil with some pink ink from CTMH.

I also added some teal, yellow and pink gelato all over. I also decided to stamp some "x's" with my new Illustrated Faith stamp set that I got for Christmas.

Put another layer of gesso over the entire page.

Then wrote a portion of Hebrews 13:5 in the center with black marker.

Stamped the flowers with a Fun Stampers Journey set and also added some Color Silk in pink & yellow also from FSJ. Then I added a frame using a Stabilo pencil & smeared a little with my wet finger. Date stamped at the bottom and done.

I also feel that every piece of art needs a little yellow so that's why I added some yellow splashes before saying it was done.

Look & Be Amazed; Habakkuk 1:5

As I was working on my ICADs, I decided to work in my bible. I haven't done any bible art in a long time so I decided to bring my bible into the Command Center & work in it.


Here's the finished page and close ups:

 I applied clear gesso to the top/edges before adding gelatos. The gelatos were applied and rubbed in with my fingers. I had already added art to the backside of this page so the strip of washi was already there. I went over the AMAZED stickers with a black marker since I wanted it to stand out more. I have so many alphabet stickers and I hope to use more of them in the future. 

I stamped the banner & added random stickers. The piece of doily was sitting on the floor & I thought the color went with it so I glued it on. The tab & butterflies were punched out of the labels I made of my original art. Although the colors do not match exactly, I added the butterflies so it would tie in better. I also drew around the butterflies & added antennas to them. Remember that banner stamp was one that I almost tossed. It originally had a warped Happy Birthday in the middle but I ended up cutting it out & so glad I did. What a great stamp!

I love this verse! How inspiring! I added the tab because I can see myself returning to this verse often. I mentioned before that before I read or create in my bible, I always give a quick prayer and then randomly open a page. I believe that God speaks directly to me when I do this.

It's Been A While

Even though it's right on my bedside table, I hate to admit it, but I haven't opened my bible in a long time. I rarely stay in my bed long enough to grab something to read and it's one of those "out of sight...out of mind" things. (Not very Christian-like but hey if you can't be honest in your own blog, where can you be?) So, the other day like I always do when I read my bible, I said a prayer and then opened it. It opened to 2 Chronicles - read some versus and thought, WHAT? Then I read the introductory & felt so much better about what I read.
The chapters mention names - giving some history of the kings, etc. Nothing in particular. But the intro said the same thing I was thinking. The point is the more faithful the person was, the more he was noted in the Bible and in more detail. In other words, he found favor in God's eyes.  Sort of like a squeaky wheel but in a good way. I like that!
 

I did this simple bible journaling in the left side corner.  I was going to throw out the banner stamp but before I did, I cut out the sentiment that was in the middle.  I decided to keep it afterwards and I'm so glad that I did!  What a great versatile stamp!  The flowers are from Michael's dollar stamps and the letters for TRUST are Tim Holtz letter stack.  Just some simple water coloring from my water color pencils and done!

John 3:16;Bible Art

This verse was on my mind but I couldn't remember the whole thing.  That's pretty bad since I remembered it for years and years. So I looked through my bible and it all came back to me.

Here's my simple bible art.

Be Rich in Good Deeds

Normally my bible sits on my nightstand next to my bed but because I've been doing some Bible Art Journaling, it's been in the Command Center.

Needless to say, it's been awhile since I've read it.  So, the other night, I pushed aside my art supplies and placed my NIV Mother's Inspiration bible on it.  As always, I started my prayer before opening my bible.  This time, I didn't have a specific prayer so I was just talking to God about the day and other things going on in our household. 

Just a brief summary, my husband was aching and in so much pain from a tooth infection.  Now this is going to sound really bad, but I had one pain pill left over from my foot surgery that I've been hoarding saving for a rainy day.  I didn't want to give it to him.  Yeah, that bad...anyhow right before I went to the Command Center, I was washing dishes downstairs and as I was trying to convince myself that there was nothing wrong with what I was thinking, but soon realized that I was being selfish and borderline drug addicty (yeah, that's a word in my dictionary).  So I went upstairs and offered the medication to hubby.  He took it (and it did help).

So back to the conversation between me and God.  I didn't even mention this in my conversation with Him prior to opening my bible, but lo and behold, this is the verse that God gave me to read and reflect on:

Command them to do good; be rich in good deeds; be generous and willing to share.
1 Timothy 6:18

HOW AWESOME IS OUR GOD!  I laughed so loud and hard, I actually had a stomach cramp.  Don't ever let anyone tell you, you cannot have a personal relationship with God. 

I used watercolor pencils from CTMH to color in the image.  Instead of a wet paint brush, I used a baby wipe to spread the colors.  The stamp is from Rubber Paws.  I handwrote a portion of the verse and underlined it.  I used a black fine point BIC pen for the letters.


Note:  Hubby did have an infection; dentist prescribed some penicillin, pain pills and anti-inflammatories.  Oral surgeon extracted the tooth and all is well!

More Bible Art

This is my contribution to the bible study on Triple the Scraps; Glory Art (see badge on the right).  I used a BIC pen and wrote the verse on the margin and then rubbed my finger in a yellow and pink ink pad and rubbed the page.  I started off rubbing the yellow over the word "Lord" and then added pink.  The white accents are with a white Signa pen.  The blue in the arrow is a smudgy Soft Sky ink pad.

The main thing I learned from this lesson that even when you think you are being humble by "talking yourself down" you're still thinking of YOU versus God.  Humbling yourself before the Lord is to keep Him on your mind first and not you.  I never really thought of being humble in that way.

My God...

Is forgiving...He answers me...He is great and marvelous...and I will praise Him.

As I mentioned before, when I read my bible, most times I say a prayer, open it and then read what passage God has for me at that moment.  This time it was Psalms 86.

I just drew circles using watercolor pencils, watered them down and accented with a white pen.  And added a strip of washi tape on the edge.  A very simple way to highlight key phrases.

I know this may sound silly, but I love the idea of making art in my bible.  Not only am I reading it more, but I am really studying to select highlights of the verses.  Mostly for art purposes, but really studying word by word.  Lord, you know me so well.  You know that this technique will bring me closer to Your word.  Whew!  Powerful!

Do Not Lose Heart

My first Bible Journaling...I don't have the journaling bible with 2" margins to do all this great art, what I have is my large print King James bible and my NIV Mom's Devotional bible.  I don't feel I need to purchase one to highlight verses and create art in my bible.

I've read the bible completely two times, but I really enjoy bible study lessons and better yet, I love when I pray before opening the bible and then just open it and read.  God always provides the verse(s)   I need.  This morning, I prayed specifically for my friend and coworker who is battling cancer.  She went through chemo last year and was given a clean bill of health, but unfortunately at her follow up appointment this week, they found two more spots.  She is a woman of faith and when I opened my bible, these words stood out "Do Not Lose Heart".

So I emphasized those words in this little corner of free space on this page.  On the edge, I wrapped some washi tape and plan on doing that on each page I add a little something.  If I ever need to go back and look for these specific pieces, they will be easy to find.

I have been internet surfing and pinterest seeking for hints and ideas.  I think the best thing for me is using coloring pencils and a BIC pen.  I may try to experiment with some transparent paint at one point, but we'll see.

My hope is that instead of just underlining verses or jotting down notes here and there, I'll do a little colorful entry of inspiring words of faith.  I know it'll be fun to find these treasures later.  By the way, I have a photo of my daughter and an old friend of hers when they were five years old tucked in my bible.  I keep it in there because it makes me smile.
