Pop Up Box Cards Instructions

I have pretty much given up on doing another video.  I know I need to do better research, but if you know me at all, you know that I hate that kind of thing.

Here are some photos and I'll walk you through it:

These cards will fit in a standard A4 envelope (to fit a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" card).

Supplies Needed:
7 1/2 x 9 1/4" cardstock
Patterned Papers (I use three different ones)
Score Board
Scissors
Adhesive

Cut your cardstock to 9 1/4 x 7 1/2".  Score at the below measurements:

Once you score on the 9 1/4" side, turn it to the left and score at 4 1/2".

Take that same piece and cut off the first 2".

With that strip, cut at 3 5/8" and then cut it in half so you have two 1 x 3 5/8" strips with the scoring already done (be sure to cut with the 1/2" score line at the other end).  These are for the inside of the box card to add your embellishments.

On the main piece, cut down to the score line to create flaps for the box.

Patterned Papers:
2 total at 5 1/4 x 2
6 total at 2 1/4 x 1 7/8
3 total at 2 3/4 x 1 7/8

Cut your patterned papers as above and adhere to the flaps.  HINT:  If you are using a directional piece of patterned paper, be sure to adhere it so when flaps are down, the images are the right side up.  (See my inside flaps example)

Add strong adhesive to the side tab and adhere.  HINT:  Fold at the 2 1/8" and 6 3/8" score lines and fold these on top of each other for an even edge.

Viola!

Apply adhesive to the inside strip (1 x 3 5/8) tabs and place them in the middle of the box.  You should fold the card flat to make sure it will close.

I know it would be so much easier if I had done a video, but I hope this helped a little.  Although there are many videos and instructions out there, I used the one at Splitcoaststampers.com.  I love visiting this site for inspiration and ideas.

To add height to your embellishments and some fun (moving) elements, attach some embellishments to strips of transparency sheets or something similar.

Also remember, to check the placement of the embellishments every so often by folding the card.  If items fall over the edge, they will not fit in the envelope.

CUTE!

ICAD #7 and End of Week One

Hey, hey, hey, I lasted at least a week!  These cards are so quick and fun to make.  I'm not having any trouble at all getting these in each day.

Prompt #7:
Pinball or Bowling
My first thought was circles.  I love creating circles in my art pieces so this was going to be easy.  I didn't prep the card, just used my finger to fingerprint three grey circles.  Then I added a few swipes of lt. Pink paint.  Baby blue was going to be my final color and when I went to swipe it around the pink marks, my finger slipped.  Oops!  So now I decided to cover the page (around the circles) with the blue paint.  At that point, I thought I'm going to add the three finger holes and literally make them bowling balls.  I used a BIC pen for that and then black re-inker with a toilet tissue roll to add black circles around them.  I added some "x's" on the lower right side for a play on the X for strike in bowling.

Although we're supposed to be concentrating on words, type, etc., I just left it alone.  I don't know why, but I really like it and they sort of remind me of something out of the Flintstones.  Hee Hee!

I used my brush off for this page:

And here are all seven cards for Week One:

Do you have a favorite?  I love the Snoopy one but really like the way the background looks on Day #4 (typewriter).

YABBA DABBA DOO!

WOYWW 370

I had a really busy and successful weekend.  I finished a lot of projects and even did some cleaning up.  When I was taking pictures of the finished products, the clutter around was so terrible, I HAD to clean up.  I really should clean up between projects - okay, okay, I know I've said this a million times before - maybe, just maybe it'll actually happen.  LOL
Before:

After:

I also replaced a small table with a three drawer dresser.  This gives me more places to store things.

July's Upcoming Events:
July 9:  Rock n Roll Baby Shower
July 10:  Local Christmas in July Event
July 15:  FOM piece for Lila Grey Design Team
July 23:  Engagement Party
July/August: Summer Reading Marathon

If you read my blog, you'll know that I also started the Index Card A Day (ICAD) challenge.  Go to THIS website for all the details.  I was inspired to start by Patter Cross at Triple the Scraps blog site.  Click HERE to see her contributions.  She also hosts a great bible study.  Follow my ICAD creations by clicking on the ICAD label on the right.  It's a lot of fun!

WOYWW?

Today I'm not working on anything.  I have my boutique items on the work area because I need to get them into my rolling carts for the event this weekend.  The after photo is what my desk looks like at this point.  Later today, I'll work on my ICAD #8.

Go to the WOYWW link up to take a peek into other crafters' workrooms.  You will not be disappointed.  There are so many creative people out there!

Wow, there are a lot of links in this post.  If you get a chance, please click on these links and check out what some of my crafty friends are up to and leave comments if you feel like it.

ICAD #5 & 6

SO MUCH FUN!  I'm really enjoying the Index Card A Day challenge.  The size of the cards makes it a quick project.  If you want to see past posts, click on the ICAD label.  To read more about the challenge, go HERE

Prompt #5: Clouds
I'm sure most of you do this, but I scan and print copies of my original master boards for future projects.  I grabbed one of these sheets and cut clouds from it.  First I painted the card with blue watercolor paint.  Then adhered the clouds to it.  I cut the definition of cloud from an old dictionary and adhered to the largest cloud.  I used a silver pen to give each cloud a silver lining and used two images from the Lila Grey Elements #1 stamps (white acrylic paint circles and the black archival ink marks).  I drew a messy border around the edge and also added some silver paint marker drops here and there.  I used my finger to add more watercolor paint around the clouds.  I dipped in the drying pot so the color was more intense and added only a little bit of water.

Prompt #6:  Top Ten
All day I was thinking about what would be my list and then I decided to use my top ten materials in mixed media.  Can you guess what they are?  Watercolor markers, distress spray inks, script stamp, archival black ink, gesso, acrylic paint, stencil, white-out pen, black fine-point BIC pen and water spray bottle!
I'm entering this on the STAMPlorations blog stencil Sunday #53 & mixed media challenge.

ICAD #3 and #4

Hey ICADians, here are my days 3 & 4 cards.  When I saw Snoopy as the prompt for day 3, I about squealed!  I love Snoopy and all things Peanuts.  I have some stamps but rarely pull them out.  Strange...I know.

Carly is joining the fun.  She loves Instagram and had to join.  Since she no longer has a blog, I know she'll add to Instagram.  She may get a guest appearance (if she's nice) here.  I hope she sticks to it.  She really is a great artist and has a very creative mind.

Card #3:
Prompt:  Snoopy
I spritzed the card in water and then painted green and blue watercolor on it.  Once dried, I stamped Snoopy.  I stamped Snoopy again on white cardstock, fussy cut him and placed him right on top of the other stamped image.  (I wanted Snoopy to be white.). I used a fine point BIC pen to draw a messy border.  I knew I wanted to write a quote/sentiment, but didn't know what.  As I was sitting there pondering, I noticed the name of the stamp is "Happy Mail", there you have it - inspiration hit.  LOL. I used a Sharpie to write it and highlighted with my white Signo marker.  And then, since my philosophy with art is everything needs a little yellow...I spritzed a water/paint concoction on it.  Simple, but I love it.

Card #4:
Prompt:  Typewriter
I know I have a typewriter stamp and knew I'd use it for today's index card.  I gesso'd the card, added old olive ink refill drops and sprayed it with water.  It covered the whole card.  Once dried, I added some Pumpkin Pie ink drops here and there with spritzed water.  Then I stamped the typewriter to the right side and ghost stamped around the card.  I added the XOXO's all over.  Added the sentiment.  I also spritzed some watered down acrylic paint and splattered all over the card.

Rock n' Roll Baby

Gone are the days of baby blue and teddy bears. I'm always so surprised to find out baby shower/nursery themes these days.  I actually went to a shower a few years ago where the theme was black.  Yes, the color black.  Crazy!  LOL

Rock n' Roll baby is the theme for my goddaughter's boy baby shower.  When I got the call from my comadre, I told myself, "Self, do not volunteer to make anything!  You are too busy right now!".  Yeah, right.  That didn't help.  She didn't even ask, I automatically said, "oh, I can do that for you".  WTH!

Even Kenny looked at me like I was crazy.  He just shook his head.  LOL

But how can I not?  I love doing stuff like this especially when I know I can do it and after all it is my goddaughter.  So, here I am cutting out thirty 3" guitars not including the ones I'll need for the diaper cake.  Thankfully I made a diaper cake awhile ago for a gift but didn't end up going to the shower.  I stripped the baby girl decorations off it and changed it for this theme.

I'm entering this in the Anything Goes challenge on Decorate to Celebrate challenge site.  Go HERE  to check it out.  UPDATE:  I won the challenge!

OMG!!  Don't you LOVE it!?!

Here are the guitars:

Cricut Cartridge:  Ole (guitars); Nify Fifties (mostly everything else); baby onesies (New Arrival)
EK Success star punch (large and small) and bow tie (from my gingerbread man punch)
Wink of Stella
Mini Clothespins from $1 bin at JoAnne's

This just might be the cutest thing I ever made!  LOL. Kenny said it looks too small, so I might be adding a fourth bottom layer.  The only thing is I'm running out of teal and silver paper.  I may have to go with black even though I kinda hate that idea.  We'll see.  I'll try to post a photo when it's at the shower.  LOL

ICAD #1 and #2

Index Card A Day Challenge:
Can I do it?  It seems easy enough, but I also know me.  Well, I'm gonna try it.  Here's my Day 1 card:

The prompt is words and mixtape. I wasn't sure what I was going to do, but then thought of a song that I love.  One from back in the day when we were making mixed tapes.  My all time favorite song is "Some Kind of Wonderful" but this is one of my long time favorites too.  The other detail for the first week is to use yellow.  Click on the link below to learn more about the challenge and to get the list.  You can start anytime!

Another photo of the finished index card.  I used the images on this stamp set (Elements #3 from Lila Grey, designed by little ol' me!)  Those great pink circles are also from this stamp set.  I took a photo of the journal page since I was using it as my "brush off" piece.

Day Two:  Pyramid
I was at a loss, but then thought I'd place words in a pyramid shape.  I like it!

I used images from this set.

Both together.

HERE for more info on Index Card A Day challenge.

We'll see how far I go.  I have to tell you, creating these little masterpieces is pretty quick.  I did today's (pyramid) in about 20 minutes this morning before getting ready for work.

Details on the cards:
Card #1:  I saw this video about using gesso through a stencil before adding any paint.  I used a rose stencil.  Then used lt. pink acrylic paint over the top and used a baby wipe to wipe away the rose images.  Used the Elements #3 stamp set to stamp yellow acrylic paint to the right side.  I then used the same "bubble wrap" stamp to add some teal ink in the same corner.  Added bright pink with my finger around the left side.  Drew the heart with gelatos and lined it with black licorice gelato as well.  Used water to smudge.  Added a little bit of teal too.  The white dots are from a white correction pen.  The black lines on the right side are also from the Elements stamp set.  Handwrote the words on white cardstock and lined with black BIC pen.

Card #2:  Covered card with gray acrylic paint.  Used a homemade glue gun stencil on top and sprayed yellow distress ink.  It came out a little more green than it should have, but that's ok.  I used SU! pink ink and another image from Element #2 set.  I also used black acrylic ink and the sunburst stamp.  I wrote the words on white cardstock and lined with a SU! grey marker.  I still felt like it needed something so I added some teal gelato border around the card and smudged with a water brush.  I then added another stamp image from the same Elements #2 set with white acrylic paint.

Ok, I know I designed them, but did I tell you how much I LOVE those Element stamp sets!?!  They are so fun and make it so easy to add random marks to your designs.

I'm thinking these index cards might make some great postcards...hmmm...
