Nat'l Strawberry Day Watercolor Card

Happy National Strawberry Day. I swear there's a national holiday for just about anything but hey, it gives me excused to make theme specific cards!

I created this card by adding red watercolor paint on a thick piece of white cardstock. Then, I created my own patterned paper by stamping two different strawberry stamps and some paint splatter around it.

Once that was dried, I heat embossed a sentiment on patterned vellum and adhered this panel to the patterned paper using four white brads.

Hello! This card has so much going on. Watercoloring, embossing, stamping, vellum and brads.

TGIF; Thankful Friday #402

TGIF and Happy Thankful Friday! I'm back in Arizona this week which makes me thankful for not only the great sunny weather but also sister time.

Now that we're spread all over the U.S., I know I need to take advantage of this time when it comes. Even when the crazy is present (it's mostly me), it's still good to be with them.

What about you? What are you thankful for this week?

Designer Deep Dive Challenge Layout & YT Hop

Join a fun group of creators each month as we take on the Designer Deep Dive Hop! Each month Tara from @thepapersnob will select a designer or manufacturer to use on a layout. There will be some alternatives for some of the designers just in case you don’t have this designer or manufacturer in your stash.   You are not required to use 100% of this designer!

This hop goes live on the FOURTH SATURDAY of the month. We will have a hop on YouTube and Instagram to show how we each used the designer for the month.

The designer/manufacturer of the month is: Creative Memories, Stampin’ Up, or Close To My Heart. If you don’t have any of those, use an old kit club that you have hanging around.

This is my first time participating in this hop but since I was at a scrapbooking retreat, I felt I had plenty of opportunity to complete it!

Here's my layout:

And the deets:

The collection I used was called Free To Be Me. It was an anniversary collection from CTMH years ago. I actually have two sets of this collection because I loved it so much. It also means that I still have a lot of it left over. That's ok. I feel like these colors and the patterns can go with pretty much everything.

Be sure to Hop along to the different videos, leave some comments and hopefully be inspired by the designers. The YouTube playlist link is below:

Nat'l Margarita Day; Stick it Down Sketch

I love the sketch by Stick It Down for February and loved how it worked turned on its side for this two photo layout.

As you can probably guess, I was determined to use all these festive stickers from this collection sheet that I've had for many years. I bought it on clearance for $.79. How could I resist?

Here's the sketch:

And my layout:

The top two images are a photo printed at 2x2 square and a margarita sticker from a completely different sticker set.

Stick It Down posts three sketches each month. A card sketch, two page and a single page sketch.

You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

Making a Junk Journal with Aiyana

Have you ever wanted to make a junk journal? Well, I just made one with my niece and remembered to film it. There are some portions that didn't get filmed, but I still think this is a good one to follow along with if you're interested in making your own.

She piled 10 pieces of paper on top of each other and then folded them to create our signatures.  At that point, I used a sewing machine to keep them attached. Basically sewed right down the fold.

Luckily we found some upholstery thread to use to bind them into the cover. The cover was a box that held a frame. It was the perfect size thickness.

I used a piece of scrap cardboard to create a template to drill the holes. You can see this on the video.

You can always ask questions too!

Check out the journal that Aiyana and I created with limited supplies. (I was at my sisters' and used items from her sewing room!)

TGIF; Thankful Friday #401

Hi there and happy Friday. It's another week to be thankful. I was reminded that I skipped a week and guess what, I almost forgot another one.

This week I'm thankful for being home and enjoying our new furniture. We bought a new couch, love seat and recliner. But the thing I'm mostly thankful for is that our whole family fills them up. We've been watching the Olympics and it's been nice rooting for the young athletes as they compete for medals.

What about you? What are you thankful for this week? Leave me a comment!

Guest Designer on the Scrapbooking The Day Away Website; Week Two

Hi there, I'm a guest design team member on the Scrapbooking The Day Away website and there are some fabulous sketches there.

This week's sketch:

And my layout:

I was really excited about this sketch because it allowed me to use lots of scraps. I bought a beer themed collection years ago when we did a 60th birthday party for my hubby and still had lots of scraps. I pretty much used them all for this layout. There are four different patterned papers on this one layout.

I added white mats a few places to settle the eyes a little but I think the rest looks great! I hope you agree.

Check out my process video to see how this was put together and to get a few little paper saving tips so you can use those scraps!

Be sure to join the free membership on the STDA website. There is a free and a pay subscription available. Of course you get so much more with the paid subscription and it is totally worth it!

Canvas Painting; Graffiti Hearts

Watch as I create a fun, bright and hopefully a little grungy canvas that is full of hearts. These hearts are different colors and sizes and really great!

I created this for my oldest granddaughter and because she loves purple, I really tried to add as much as possible.

What do you think? Do you like it?

Rainbow Crush YT Hop; Red

Welcome to Rainbow Crush – a Social Media hop where we share projects that feature a color of the rainbow each month! This hop is hosted by Tara on her Facebook Group.  Anyone is welcome to play along.  This hop takes place on the  2nd Wednesday of the month!  The color for February is red!

You can sign for the next month’s hop over on the The Paper Snob Community Facebook group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/thepapersnobcommunity/

The challenge color is perfect for these photos I have of our 49er Superbowl Party in 2024.

I used two different sketches from Scrapping the Day Away and lots of red.

More pictures:

The two footballs were the negative from a project that I completed before. I just had a feeling that I would use them for something. I thought about adding a back layer, but for this layout, I felt like it looked fine without one.

I know this side looks a little plain, but I actually like it. I may go back and add some journaling strips, but I'm not sure.

The three patterned papers are 4x6.

Here is the YOUTUBE PLAYLIST for this hop! All the videos in one place!

Glue Book; Junk Journal Spread

I've mentioned before that my junk journal is a combination of all sorts of things. This spread is probably considered Glue Book style.

I received some cookies from my birthday twin (ex-coworker that we share birthdays with) when he visited Costa Rica. I did not expect the gift so that was a nice treat in itself (yes, pun intended!)

I basically just glued the wrappers to the pages in the JJ. Once that was completed, I added a little journaling by pulling out these vellum "post-it" notes and some vellum round stickers.

I wasn't sure how I was going to add the information, so I considered adding a flap with some washi tape or regular tape but then I remembered I had these vellum options.

So fun! I love that I was able to add details without covering up the wrappers!

I did find out that you can actually purchase these treats at Walmart. The next time I go, I'm going to have to take a better look at their cookies.

TGIF: Thankful Friday #400

Hi there and happy Friday. It's that time where I get to let you know what I'm thankful for this week.

This week I'm thankful for coffee that makes you smile! I'm in AZ this week visiting my sister and I have treated myself twice to coffee. The first cup is from the Presta Coffee Roast

And this one is from the local Starbucks. I just love it when they write little notes!

What about you? What are you thankful for this week? Leave me a comment!

Scrap Buster Easter Card

Do you have lots of paper scraps in your craft room? Yup! Me too! I saw a card similar to this on FB and knew I had to try it.

I gathered scraps that I felt would be good for an Easter card since I knew I was going to use the Xcut Easter Rabbit Small Die Set from Jenlee Schoolcraft as the focal image.

These scraps were cut in 1/8" strips (this is approximate because I eyeballed the widths). I cut so many that I had enough for two cards! The lengths can vary but need to be at least 2.5" long.

You'll also need two cardstock panels. One at 5.25x4" and the other at 4x2.5". On the larger piece, mark 5/8" at the top from all four edges. And 1 3/8" from left and right edge in the middle of the paper. WATCH the process video for a visual.

I used cardstock scraps to die cut all the pieces for the Easter egg and decorations. The pieces were small so I used my Sizzix Sidekick. Once they were put together and embellished, it was time to use those paper strips and complete the card!

On the large panel, add adhesive above and below the middle line and start laying down the strips. The first and last strips need to to be placed at the 5/8" marks. It makes sense when you watch! Use adhesive to attach the strips on the cardstock panel to complete. I used liquid adhesive for this.

Decorate and adhere the smaller panel to the middle of the larger panel.

I mentioned above that the Xcut Easter Rabbit Small Dies set is from Jenlee Schoolcraft. Click HERE to go to her website for budget friendly crafting supplies. There is a great variety of new and gently used items for sale. When you use the coupon code, Dorlene, you'll get an extra 10% off your entire order.

Opening Day 2014;Scrapping the Day Away

Hi there. I'm a Guest Designer this month for AnnMarie at Scrapping the Day Away. If you're a new or seasoned scrapbooker, this site is the place to be. Not only are there sketches, prompts and tutorials but there is also friendships and camaraderie!

I'm working with this sketch:

And created this layout!

When I saw those triangles, I knew exactly what photos I was going to use. They scream baseball pennants, right?! And the three baseballs! I mean, come on!

The SF and title were made with my Cricut and the other embellishments are from a sticker collection.

Don't forget to check out THIS incredible scrapbooking source. There's a free membership and a paid one.

TGIF; Thankful Friday #399

Happy Friday and happy another week to be thankful! This week has gone by so fast! Probably because I'm going out of town and I'm scuttling around trying to do all the things.

This week I'm thankful for good night sleeps. I'm lucky enough to be one of those people who instantly falls asleep when their head hits the pillow. But for some reason, I struggled on a few nights.

So I am thankful for nights when I did fall fast asleep!

What about you? What are you thankful for this week?

TKS IV Layout; 100 Patterned Paper Challenge

I love scrapbooking challenges and this layout was completed using a five item challenge on the 100 Patterned Papers Challenge Group on Facebook.

The five items we had to use are: circles, die cut, small words, thread/twine and something new.

Watch the process video for details on the five items.

Gotta tell you, I wasn't sure how I was going to incorporate thread/twine but then I was adhering the sneakers and it just came to me!

What do you think? Nailed it, right?!

Leave a comment if you'd like more info on how to organize your own virtual marathon. It has given my family a way to honor my nephew's memory and build new memories.

Junk Journal Spread; Hummingbird

Hi there! I had a chance to play in the junk journal the other day and I love how this two page spread turned out. I adhered torn pieces of painty paper scraps to both sides of the journal pages and adhered a paper frame on the left.

I made this hummingbird a while ago to create a colorful card earlier and decided to add it onto this page. (to view the YouTube process video for the card, click HERE)

I used watercolor paints to add some flower petals and just color around the spread.

Watch the process video to see how it was done. I love how colorful it is and think the bright hummingbird looks great over there on the left side.

On the right side, I was going to write a hummingbird quote but decided to use these sticker phrases instead. I purchased these at Scrap & Sip in SF last year and almost forgot about them!

I did end up writing the hummingbird quote to the bottom of the frame. Take a closer look:

At some point I'll do a flip through of my Little Golden Book Junk Journal but I want to complete more pages first.

I also added some silver metallic paint pen ink marks on the right side.

I love this quote. I think it's a great one to live by!

New Baby Easel Card

Do you ever make something but you're just not sure if you like it? That’s how I felt when I first made this card.

I mean, it's just missing something. I'm so glad I didn't give up on it because now I love it!

Watch the YouTube process video to see how it was put together and a fun stamping tip.

Card is 5.5x8.5; scored at 4.25 and then the top was folded in half again. This creates the easel base.
Blue cardstock mat is 4.0x5.25 and patterned paper is 3.75x5"
The hearts were cut using a Sizzix die set from Jenlee Schoolcraft.
Banner is a punch and the enamel dots are a matte white from Eyelet Outlet
Stamps are from my stash

Do you want to know how to turn a straight sentiment stamp into a curved one? Be sure to watch the video.
