World Card Making Day #5; Sketch n Scrap

At Sketch n Scrap, we're celebrating World Card Making Day all month with a new card sketch every Saturday. Here's the sketch for Saturday, October 29th:

And here's my card:

This was actually a pretty easy card and it's so bright and cute! I created a YouTube Short showing how I turned these cute flat pieces into 3D piece on a YouTube Short.  Check it out HERE.

And the full process YouTube video below:

I hope you've been joining the WCMD sketch challenges and having fun with them. Be sure to link your cards to the Sketch n Scrap blog!

Impromptu Family Reunion Layout

I am on a mission to use paper kits that I have had for years. I know as a crafter, I'm also a hoarder. I'm guessing we all are! LOL

I had this paper kit for years, in fact, I got it as a giveaway for a workshop I attended at an Expo at least six or seven years ago. I have used it, but there was still so much left of it to use.

It felt great to use up more of the products and papers but guess what? There are still lots of pieces left!

What I like about this layout is that there's a lot of embellishments but they are well placed to not overwhelm the layout or the photo. That's my style of scrapbooking...focus on the photos but also use your stuff! I believe I accomplished this by keeping the embellishments in a diagonal line. What do you think? Do you agree?

This kit is called The Story of Our Family by Lori Whitlock and was perfect for the photo that I have of our impromptu family reunion last year.

The sketch is from Scrapbooking With Ann Marie site and I was able to use three different patterned papers as well as lots of embellishments. Most of these embellishments are from a chipboard pack, but I peeled off most of the chipboard so it wouldn't be so bulky.

Check out the YouTube process video below:

And here are more photos:

TGIF; Thankful Friday #245

Happy Friday and Happy Thankful Friday!  Oh what a week! It's been a busy one for me with all the Halloween activities and projects that need to be done by the weekend.

What am I thankful for this week? I'm thankful for learning opportunities especially free ones. I took a Canva class through my work and it is so cool. I've created some pretty cool items for my IG posts and stories and it sure does give a professional look.

Be sure to check it out @3sons_and_astar. Here's one that's going up today. Fun, right?

Halloween Treat; CutCardStock

Who wouldn't love this cute Frankenstein hugging your chocolate treat? He's so cute and friendly and apparently thoughtful since I love chocolate especially chocolate with almonds!

I uploaded this free (for the month of October, 2021) SVG cut file from My Scrap Chick and used cardstock from CutCardStock. *Colors are listed below.

The thing to remember when uploaded SVG files from outside vendors, is to change the cut lines in the main image to score and then attach them to the main image.

Watch the YouTube video to see how I did it! Once that's completed, it's just a matter of finding the right colors, cut the pieces and then put them together.

I also added some highlights and dimension with markers from my stash.

I mean, look at that face! So cute!

I made a few of these to hand out to my coworkers and also for my granddaughters. The image is made to fit a regular size Hershey's Chocolate Bar with Almonds, Twix or M&M's.

Be sure to check out the CutCardStock blog post for this project as well as all other great cardstock paper projects from the Design Team.

*CutCardStock Papers Used:
Basis Dark Purple and Pop Tone Grape Jelly
Pop Tone in Spearmint, Sour Apple, Olive, Lemondrop, Orange Fizz, Black Licorice
White Cardstock

Thinking Of You Card - Challenge

I was thinking the other day that I haven't participated in a challenge lately so I looked at my regular challenge blogs and combined a couple to create this:

Heart 2 Heart; a CTMH challenge blog and their theme is to create a cool background
I used three ink pads from CTMH and paddle brushes to apply ink to the card panel. I used repositionable glue to adhere a wavy design cut from regular notebook paper to mask off some white space on the panel. I used Capri and Carolina inks for the top portion and Pewter for the bottom portion of the card panel to emulate a beach scene. I also did a little ink splatter on the 'sky'.

Stick It Down; a sketch challenge site and I used their card sketch

I mentioned above how I used a mask to follow the sketch.

Once I removed the mask, I used a beach themed stamp set to stamp some details in the 'sand' and also the embellishments. Each stamped embellishment was colored using water based markers and a water brush. Once that was dry, I used a clear glitter marker from CTMH to add sparkle.

To add even more sparkle, a bow was added by wrapping silver thread (also from CTMH) around the card front before adding another shell to the top. The larger shell was adhered using foam tape. Added three dots of Icicle Stickles on the left side of the sentiment to complete the card front panel.

To help the panel stand out, I also inked the outside edges of the cardbase using Carolina ink and a paddle brush to add color instead of using a colored cardbase or a mat.

Be sure to click over to these two challenge sites to see more of their monthly challenges.

I also filmed a process video for you to check out:

Be sure to hit the subscribe button if you're not already a subscriber and the notification bell to be notified of all my videos. I post two a week and at least one is scrapbooking. The other is whatever I'm creating in the Command Center which is the name of my craft room.

My Cricut is Chirping!

I love to be creative with all kinds of different mediums which makes having a Cricut so useful. I've been making lots of shirts lately - some customized and others personal. Basically, my Cricut has been chirping!

I'm getting lots of order from a football mom/dad to have their son's name & number on the back of shirts but one also had a little extra on the front.

Although this shirt says 'uncle', I'm making these for everyone in our family to show support for his fight. They will say brother, son, brother-in-law, son-in-law and nino. I also made one for him to wear which is so fitting since he is a WARRIOR. I can't wait for him to see us all wearing them. There is a white ribbon on the upper back of each shirt as well as the "fight" statement on the left hand sleeve.

Apparently, black T's are hard to photograph since all of these shirts are black and not the charcoal gray they are in the photo.

All of the T-shirts were purchased from Michael's during one of their Door Busters sale event. That's the best way to buy shirts in bulk - local store so no shipping costs!

I love this cheer mom shirt and it almost makes me want to be one or at least a cheer grandma...almost!

I also recently made this cute 49er shirt for my youngest granddaughter. I purchased some puffy HTV and used it for this shirt. I didn't read the instructions so I left the press on too long, but it's still super cute especially with this cute model!

And I can't forget about my current favorite.  Ghost Malone sweatshirt. I love puns and this is perfect!

I'm sure I'll have plenty to show off next week too. Make sure you come back and check them out!

TGIF; Thankful Friday #244

This was a nice week. We finished Cobra Kai, the Padres eliminated the Dodgers in the playoffs, celebrated my sister's birthday, lots of creativity happening in the Command Center and the weather is getting cooler.  Not a lot going on, but enough to make it a nice week and for that I'm thankful!

Thankful for a nice week with family.

How about you? What are you thankful for this week? Let me know in the comments below or on my IG account @3sons_and_astar.

I am posting this TGIF; Thankful Friday post there too.

SNS Card Sketch #228

At Sketch n Scrap, we’re celebrating World Card Making Day all month with a new card sketch every Saturday. But, we also have the two card and two scrapbooking layouts as well. Lots going on over there!

Here’s the card sketch that I’m working with:

I made a fun fold card being inspired by the sketch.

Check out the YouTube Short to see the process.

I love how this turned out and I gotta say, my stamped & colored image is fab! The overall size of the card is 4.24 x 4.25. I believe this is called a side easel card.

The three patterned papers are from my scrap pile. I love using scraps for cards! The stamped image & sentiment are from Unity Stamp Co. I used a variety of alcohol markers to color her in. I punched and inked the background circle to create a base for the image. Once I inked the circle, outlined with a thin black marker, I stamped the image directly on the circle and then splattered with gold Wink of Stella. The colored image was adhered using 3D foam adhesive.

Be sure to click over to the Sketch n Scrap blog to link your card!

Grid Layout for May, 2021 MIR

I love grid layouts! I love how they seem so organized and structured BUT that's not how my layout turned out! I decided to create a grid layout for my May, 2021 Month In Review (MIR) photos. I started off with nine photos but decided to not use three of them.  Nine small photos in a grid just seemed way too much!

The three I removed were my Mother's Day photos so I'll do a separate layout for those later.

I used the It’s All Good paper pad by Dear Lizzie for the mats and assorted patterned papers as well as the stickers and embellishments. I love this pad and just haven't used it enough. There was only one 4x6 photo and after trimming it a bit, I decided to mat it with white to help it stand out from the patterned papers.

There's wasn't anything major going on this month, which is why I love the MIR layouts. It's a great way to incorporate those random photos on your phone without adding so many extra pages in your scrapbooks. I was able to get six photos on this layout since the majority of the photos were small prints.

I do this by creating a collage using a 4x6 base. The more photos, the smaller and odd sizes you will get. I usually print two so they are approximately 3x4" - that's what I did with three of these photos.

Check out the YouTube process video:

Sketch n Scrap Layout #259

There are so many great sketches posted on the Sketch n Scrap blog every month. They post two card and two scrapbook layout sketches each month. Sketches are a great jumping off point if you just need a little inspiration. I think that's what I did with this one.

The sketch:

And my layout:

Close Ups and Other Views:

I needed to fit five photos on this layout and I did just that. The vertical paper on the right also holds two portrait photos and I used two smaller accent photos to do just that...accent.

I hope you can see the sketch in my layout. I was definitely inspired by it! I even did a little stamping!

Check out the process YouTube video:

Be sure to link your layout to the Sketch n Scrap blog before the end of the month deadline.

Thankful Friday #243

Another Friday and another week to be thankful. What am I thankful for this week? I'm thankful for my daughter-in-law, Melina. She has been amazing working with the doctors, medical staff and everyone else in regards to my son's medical treatments, hospital stays, disability paperwork and all while working.

We help as much as we can, but she has been amazing. And has made things easier for the rest of us.

Even though this has been going on for a long while, I guess it's finally time to recognize her here on my TGIF, Thankful Friday posts. I just purchased a SVG of this image below and can't wait to make her something with it.

What about you? What are you thankful for? Leave a comment here or on my IG account @3sons_and_astar where you'll see the same TGIF rainbow.

Happy Days Layout

One of the best things about social media is all the inspiration there. I follow lots of individuals and companies that post completed layouts as well as sketches and challenges. I found this sketch on IG and decided to use it for these photos of my granddaughter's dance recital photos.

The theme of the recital was TV Land and she danced with the TV show, Happy Days. I had to borrow the Happy Days kit from Echo Park from my daughter because it was perfect for these photos! Plus, I wanted to use a black/white checked or something similar pattern and found the days of the week paper. How perfect is this for the Happy Days layout?!? Do you remember the theme song?

The TV was cut with the Cricut using the Nifty Fifties cartridge. I had cut this years ago (whenever I cut items and don't use them, I keep them in a photo box) and was so happy that I was able to use it. It's perfect!

Our family has never experienced dance recitals and boy oh boy are they intense. All the kiddos were amazing and they all work so hard. It was a lot! I'll never fully understand the makeup part of it, but it is what it is and I know she loved it.

The measurements for the patterned papers are:
6x11 floral
3x4.25 teal pattern (reverse side of the floral)
3x6.75 white/black words

All embellishments are from the Happy Days scrapbooking kit from Echo Park.
