WOYWW #409; Update on the Rug

Happy WOYWW everyone! I've never really understood the need for a thimble, but whoa baby, since hand sewing this rug together my fingers and thumb are sore! The rug is coming along nicely and I love how the colors are so random but look so good together. I'm not sure how big it's going to be and once it's done, I'll know where I'm going to put it.

My one piece of advice is to be more aware of the "tails" that were left when adding the strips together. They need to be shorter or at least tucked into the back. I'll figure out what to do with them once I'm done but for now, here's a photo of it -
One with my foot so you can see the size.

Since Monday was the March Madness Championship game and I didn't finish the rug, I'm going to have to work on it during baseball season. If you're a baseball fan, you gotta know that this past weekend was Opening Day so here's to another season of baseball and finishing projects! See my original post regarding the rug & crafting during sporting events here.

WOYWW was created by Julia on her Stamping Ground blog. Each Wednesday, fellow crafters/sewers/artists link a photo of our work areas & link to the site. Then the fun part! We get to visit these sites! I'm having a lot of fun meeting new people and being inspired by their projects, their posts and their comments. Come on over & join us at Stamping Ground.

Happy Hump Day!

  1. Your rug is looking fantastic but I can imagine it can make your fingers very sore. It'll be worth it though when it's finished. I love it.
    Have a good week,

  3. Lovely work! I love those kinds of rugs. I didn't know anyone made them anymore. We are big March Madness fans, and so sorry it is over! Not so much baseball fans. Good luck getting your project done, and hope your fingers aren't too sore. # 42

  4. yes we all discover the reason for thimbles sooner or later if we do any needle art. I tis well worth the time and effort. home made rugs last a lifetime and carry wonderful memories....sew on!

  5. That looks like a big project! I can't seem to get the hang of a thimble. I usually end up just poking my fingers and then they get hard spots on them lol.

    Happy WOYWW

  6. I love your rug and had a look at the other one too. Not so long ago I went to a craft show and there were lots of rugs in this style and they were massive and I was quite disappointed when told that they had a machine to make them, what a cheat! Thanks for the visit to mine and happy woyww, Angela x24x

  8. I've always loved those braided rugs! Good thing you showed the size with your foot, because the photo without your foot makes it look tiny! Thank you for sharing, Lindart #38

  10. I've crocheted a couple of bag/baskets with big t shirt cotton, and the finger ache was something else, so I can only imagine how this is! You're going well though, your very dainty foot as a size guide is a good motivator too...if only to rmind you that it needs to be big enough for two feet to rest upon!
