When I'm at a scrapbook retreat or crop, I try really hard not to keep my scraps. So what do I do with them? I make cards!
Here are four cards I started at the Katie's World Weekend Crop. I only did the bases but added the "pretties" this past weekend.
I love how these turned out! I purchased the bride stamp about three years ago from the Scrapbook Expo but this is the first time I used it. LOVE IT!!! Since the image is very simple, I just put touches of watercolor on it and a lot of white and clear Wink of Stella for sparkle.
The flowers were colored two different ways. One with Real Red re-inker and a waterbrush and the other with alcohol markers. I did not like the way they looked so I randomly put little black dots and some highlights. Now I do. I like the "watercolored" flowers best. One card I embellished with a variety of washi tapes and the other with some gold metallic thread. Pretty, pretty!
After making the cards, I will toss the remaining scraps if any. Gasp! I know! For some reason it's easier to toss the scraps when I'm at a crop than when I'm home. But it gets pretty ridiculous to keep all scraps...right?!?
I received this gorgeous Thank You card from Lynne who I "met" via WOYWW. I love this card and it is hanging proudly in the Command Center. Go to Lynne's blog HERE. She sent a Thank You card for sending her some hollyhock seeds.
Click on over to the Stamping Ground to join up with the other WOYWW (What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday) linkers. We are a group of artists/crafters that show off our desks every Wednesday.
Gorgeous cards and I love Lynnes card too. Have a great week and happy woyww, Angela x 19
ReplyDeleteYour cards are super fab! Good for you for using up scraps. I've been doing the same thing, trying not to buy any paper. I've been having a blast...hope you are too!

Lovely cards! Sounds like you had a great time. I keep all my scraps too though I'm not nearly as organised as you - they end up in a box on the floor. Probably explains why I rarely seem to find something I want in there!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week

You have spurred me on! As soon as I have put this computer away I am attacking my scraps. Thank you for making me face up to something which has needed sorting for a long time.
ReplyDeleteLove the cards you have made, the backgrounds are the perfect showcases for your flowers. Lovely pear card too.
Hugs & Thanks for visiting me yesterday

Hi Sharon, I agree, keeping scraps can get ridiculous, I don't know about you, but I rarely find I have a scrap big enough for what i want! Or I forget to check first. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #8xx
ReplyDeleteHELLO Dorlene! First... Thank you for the lovely Shout out, I am so glad you like that card. It was a new technique for me and I was pretty pleased at how it turned out. and Secondly... I think we may be cyber sisters... Not only do I too keep all my scraps in large ziplock bags sorted by color familes, I also use them up right away if I can by creating cards AND I was also at a scrapbooking retreat this past weekend! It was kind of like Deja Vu reading this post! Now about my lovely Hollyhock seeds, should I plant them now or in the spring? Let me know! (hugs) and Happy belated WOYWW from Scrapbook Lynne #44
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne, I would wait until Spring. When I planted these originally it was after my niece was born in February. So I'm guessing around March. The good thing is they reseed. After they dry up and fall over. I just leave them and see how many stalks grow back. I also harvest seeds for friends and family. I love giving those envelopes as little gifts.
DeleteYour cards are gorgeous and I love your scraps idea - being slightly compulsive about keeping tidy and organised all my scraps get binned as I'm working, but seeing your cards I'm thinking I might have trouble in throwing them out in the future!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week,

I know what you mean about scraps, because I do the same, except I don't organize them by color like you. The cards you made from scraps came out gorgeous, and will be great for you to keep in stock for when the need arises. Blessings!
