Kaleidoscope Taster Week

I mentioned before that there are so many free classes, workshops, etc. that I'm trying to take advantage of. Last week, willowing.org offered a free taster of her Kaleidoscope workshop. The free taster is/was a week long Facebook event that had an art lesson each day along with giveaways.

This Wonky Lion was the result of Day Two's lesson. I painted him on an already started page in my Junk Journal. I just love him!

Most of the piece was painted with watercolors but I also used white gelato, black ballpoint pen, gold metallic marker and a white correction pen. The background was made by mopping up and wiping excess acrylic paints and stamped images.

I may end up making a card with him.

Junk Journal Spread

Here's another two page spread in the Junk Journal I completed. I have so many unfinished pages within the six signatures. It's a lot of fun to go through them and complete pages especially when I just want to get messy.

This spread started by writing a personal encouraging message to myself - scribbling it messily across both pages. Then I divided the spread diagonally in half by using acrylic paint.

Most of the medium was acrylic paints, but I did add some pencil and gelato sticks to add some marks and shading.

I have absolutely no idea what encouraged the images on the spread- I just started painting and one thing led to another.

Without revealing what I wrote to myself, it was basically the two roles I play in my life - one as caretaker of our family but also to myself and this symbolizes the two roles and how they interact with each other. Basically one more revealing and the other more personal.

Bitten By The Bug 2; Summer Solstice-Show Me The Sun

The current challenge at the BBTB2 site is...Summer Solstice (Show Me The Sun)! I used cuts from the Splish Splash collection from Miss Kate Cuttables. I love her designs and they are free with Circuit Access subscription in Design Space.

I love these "little mermaids" and I knew the title & sun would be so cute on the layout! I cut the sun at 7.5" and the title at 8.5" wide. It's actually a pretty simple layout with the Cricut cut outs and photos being the main focus. I added those cute acrylic water drops (had them forever!) and some washi tape to complete the page.

Now it's your turn...make something with your Cricut and link it to the BBTB2 site before the current challenge ends.

STAMPlorations & The Junk Journal; June Stencil Challenge

I created this two page summer spread to enter in the STAMPlorations June stencil challenge. You can get to their site HERE.

I didn’t take a photo of the base pages, but if you look past the red slices, you can see how the spread started. The bright colors screamed summer to me and what better to add to a summer spread than sweet, juicy watermelon?

To finish the spread, I used acrylic paints, brush and fine point markers, gelatos, white paint pen, stamps, archival black ink and two different stencils.

I love how bright and cheery it is and words to live by, right?

TGIF; Thankful Friday #134

Happy Friday! This week I'm thankful for movies and movie lists. My daughter made a list of 100 Must See movies and this sparked the decision to watch Rocky. Now, I've been trying to get my kiddos to watch Rocky since the beginning of time...I LOVE THIS MOVIE! but for whatever reason, they never wanted to watch it.

On Sunday, we watched it...and of course, they loved it...which means we get to watch more and more Rocky Balboa movies!

And more than likely Rocky IV. I'm pretty sure I stopped watching at that point until Creed came out - which by the way, I LOVED.

Junk Journal; Stop Hate Go Love

One of the only good things about this pandemic is all the virtual events happening and many of them are free. I signed up for a virtual event through Yaymaker (formerly Paint Nite).

The painting is an original piece by the artist, Lorraine Perez-Berger from Long Island. She was a great instructor and hostess. She even had a Spotify play list that we listened to during the event.

I decided to paint mine in my Junk Journal instead of a canvas. I extended the piece to the left by adding the title of the piece. Don't you love it?!

With the exception of my globe (lol) I love everything about it. It has a street art feel to it which is what she specializes in. So fun!

 I love the symbolism of the street light (red means stop and green means go).
