TGIF; Thankful Friday 318

This week has been a hard one but I am thankful for DS2’s visit. He came home for Mother’s Day and for the week.

I treated myself to a new Cricut and having a week off my 9-5 was a blessing!

It was tough knowing I was getting one less Mother’s Day greeting but my daughter in law sent a beautiful message and it was much needed.

I’ve never been a Material Girl but I have to admit, it was nice to be spoiled for Mother’s Day. New shoes, a new purse plus beautiful flowers! But most importantly that we spent the day together.

Iron Crafter Challenge YT Hop; Scraps

When I saw the Iron Crafter Challenge Hop product for May, I knew I had to join. The product to use is SCRAPS. Yeah, I have a lot of those!

I decided to create a grid layout for this challenge with all kinds of fun embellishments forming a “L” on the left side and bottom of the layout.

I’ve never did this before and I really like how this turned out.

Let's Get Messy May; Episode Three

It's Thursday and it's May so it must be time to get messy! I hope you've been joining me on my Let's Get Messy May adventure. I made a new Junk Journal using a Little Golden Book and am using this series to finally get in there and do some art!

Since it's May, I decided to make lots of flowers in this week's post. I know all the rain we had in April is bringing these flowers in May, but my garden is looking pretty good lately. I'm trying to mimic the blooms but since I love a good abstract, these are really more about the colors than real flowers.

This spread started on the inside of a large envelope. I didn’t do anything with the opening for now but it’ll be fun working that opening in a future spread!

Lots of mark making on this one and I love it! Watch the process:

Enjoy!

SNS Layout Sketch #297

I've got a fun layout for you today based off a sketch from Sketch n Scrap. I'm using sketch #297. It's Sketch n Scrap's birthday month this May so head over to their blog and/or FaceBook page for lots of fun challenges and sketches. Each month they post two challenges for cards and two for one page layouts. In May, to honor their birthday month, there will be bringing back older sketches but with a twist! Be sure to check them out.

This is one of the regular monthly sketches for May:

When I saw the stars, I instantly thought of the softball photos of my oldest granddaughter. I used paper and some stickers from a Photo Play paper kit and the die cuts are from a softball layout kit from Out On A Limb Scrapbooking.

The softball patterned paper was cut at 4" strips and that's pretty much all I did extra to this layout besides assemble the die cuts.

I also stretched this into a double page spread and repeating the sketch on the right side. Be sure to check out the process video here:

I love the bright red & yellow colors and the hearts & stars are so perfect for it too!

Birthday Bash Challenge #4; Sketch n Scrap

Sketch n Scrap is celebrating its birthday this May with lots of challenges, sketches and sketches with twists! I got to chose the layout sketch with a twist for this challenge.

Here's the sketch:

And the twist:  MONOCHROMATIC

Here's my layout:

I started by searching for yellow patterned papers. I need to find different sized patterns so it was easier on the eyes. Next, I used the Cricut to cut a 10.75" circle with one patterned paper and a 2.5" strip of another. I only had three photos of the girls dying eggs so I included a 3x4 card for the fourth "photo".

Some Easter stickers, cute title, yellow ink & splatter make this layout super cute and actually pretty easy to put together.

Be sure to join the BIRTHDAY fun at the Sketch n Scrap challenge site either on their blog or Facebook page. There are lots of older sketches but with twists! So fun!

Birthday Witch Cake Topper

For those of you that love Halloween throughout the year, you'll appreciate this cake topper I made for my daughter's friend. She is one of those people and I love her for it!

I designed this cake topper with one title in mind, but then changed it at the end. Both ways, it's adorable! You can find the file in Cricut Design Space. I added lots of foam adhesive between the layers, a wobbler on the witch and used clear transparency for the two bats that are floating outside the circle. (the transparency is sandwiched between two bats)

I love all the extra details that make this such a fun cake topper! Look at all that dimension!

Note that the purple glitter paper is the type that is embedded into the paper. There will not be any loose glitter on the cake!

Surfing By To Say Hi Card

This was a cute stamp set that I bought from Rabbit Hole Designs at the Expo. I told myself, no more stamps! But he is so cute & only $3! I had to have it!

The card is actually pretty basic with mostly just stamping & coloring with alcohol markers but I did add some extra elements to really make it a fun card.

First, I added lots of white dots to the squirrel and wave tops to add some highlights to the colored images; added some dimension to the right wave with foam adhesive so the surfer really looks like he's riding those waves!

I also added some glimmer to the tops of the waves with glimmer sticks and the fun shaped sentiment box with added fiber knot gives more interest to this card.

Be on the lookout for some sort of slider card with this image! Can you just imagine it? So fun!

Check out this YouTube Short for a super quick look at how it was made.

TGIF; Thankful Friday #317

Happy Friday and Happy Thankful Friday!

This week I'm thankful for coworker fundraisers. These type of "you don't have to cook dinner" fundraisers are my favorite! Good food brought to me, yes please and thank you!

I remember when I was the one bringing in the fundraiser booklets when my kids were younger so I'm always willing to purchase a thing or two when I can. These are definitely my favorite as well as See's Candy :).

What are you thankful for this week? Let me know in the comments!

National Scrapbook Day Flip Through

Did you get a chance to scrapbook on National Scrapbooking Day? I did and I finished so many layouts. Here are some photos but be sure to watch the flip through on YouTube.

Not only a flip through but how I completed them once I got home!

This layout, I cut and added strips of paper from the paper pad called Hopscotch from Colorbot Ichose for this event. The embellishments were cut from the Cricut and from a pennant die bought from CTMH. This spread has 10 pictures!

This two page spread also has 10 photos. All cuts are from the Cricut and the quote on the right page is Print/Cut. The two red sheets are 7x12” and there’s a 1.5” strip on the top of each side. The white photo mats are 6x8”.

The teal paper on the left side was trimmed to 11” square. The marathon paper is from Stampingstation and I trimmed it so I could use it for another time. The teal paper on the right was adhered and then I used a pencil to mark where to trim it. This layout spread holds 16 photos!

Beware Ogre Signs; Shrek Anyone?

I love custom orders and this one was a fun one for sure! This started off as a discarded (in the recycle bin of course) box that I cut down to size. They are both around 12x20" and perfect for wood signs.

I used a combination of two shades of brown, brick red and white acrylic paints to change the look of cardboard to wood planks. Then I cut the ends of the planks very jagged to emulate old wood.

The "Stay Out" sign I used a thick point white Posca paint pen and then highlighted them with a fine point black pen. I tried to write it sloppy and a little juvenile.

The "Beware Ogre" sign was a little harder to finish because well...I wasn't sure how to make an ugly ogre! I used two shades of green, red and white to finish him up. Luckily I had a photo to assist with the drawing and I think he turned out as he should - mean & ugly!

Another Trash to Treasure project that I love! The person who ordered it loved them too and that's what is important!

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

This is a simple way to dress up a bottle for Cinco de Mayo. I used the Lemons & Limes E140 cut file from Printable Cuttable Creatables for the fruit and lots of shades of yellow and green paper scraps!

The bottle tag is available on Cricut Design Space but can easily be made by punching a circle in a rectangle. I used red to make the fruit really stand out!

As always, I stacked the layers to make sure the placement is correct before adding adhesive.

I used a sand stamp from a ocean stamp set that I have to add some texture to the lemon and lime with Versamark ink so it would blend in. What a difference that makes to the flat paper!

The complete lemon and lime were adhered using liquid adhesive and the sliced lime was adhered with foam adhesive.

Watch the process video to see all the details! There is stamping, scoring, marking and other cool things going on to make this project so fun! All it needs is a little salt!

Salud!

SNS #265

May is going to hold a Birthday Bash on the Sketch n Scrap site. I'm working with card sketch #265 this month and it's a good one especially when you are mass creating - like I did!

I bought some paper & die cuts from Scrappy Boys from the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo in March and thought they would be perfect for this sketch. In fact, so perfect that I made FIVE cards using this sketch and five different characters.

The first thing I did was cut a piece of cardstock at 5.25x4". I cut & attached a piece of 3.5x4" piece of paper to the left of this piece of cardstock and a 1.75x4" piece on the right. Each 1/4" strip is a little different too. Some are straight and some have a scalloped edge.

I used the Print then Cut option in Cricut Design Space to make the sentiment rectangles & bursts since I didn't have stamps to go with these MARVELous die cuts.

Be sure to join the challenge at Sketch n Scrap blog or FaceBook page.
